The Monolith Project is an interactive, scroll-driven digital story that blends hand-drawn illustration, 3D worlds, sound, and cinematic transitions into a seamless, retro-futuristic experience. Inspired by artists like Moebius and films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, it transitions from 2D sketches to fully lit 3D scenes through custom shader-driven effects and perfectly timed motion. Built with Three.js, React Three Fiber, and GSAP, the project feels less like a website and more like a living short film.
Behind the scenes, the experience runs on a suite of modular systems engineered for performance and flexibility: a composable shader framework, a GPU-powered particle engine, custom transition shaders, and a full deferred rendering pipeline. These tools keep the experience smooth at 60fps while allowing each scene to have its own identity and style. It is no surprise that the project has earned recognition from FWA, Awwwards, CSS Design Awards, Web Game Dev and the GSAP Showcase.
