Utsubo
If you haven’t checked out Utsubo’s new site, do yourself a favor and load it up. It kicks off with a cheetah tearing across the screen in real time, fully interactive, super slick animation, and some really polished lighting and transitions. It kind of feels like the intro to a WebGPU-powered game. The site even tells you to turn on your sound, which I love. It's all running on Three.js’s new WebGPURenderer with a proper WebGL fallback, but you’ll definitely want to hit it with a WebGPU-friendly browser to catch the full effect.
What makes it cool isn’t just the visuals (which are wild), but how dialed-in the tech is. Utsubo is a creative studio out of Osaka, Japan that’s super into real-time 3D and WebGPU, and it shows. They’ve been playing with the new Three.js renderer early, using Node Materials and the TSL system to build out custom shaders and do some pretty clever stuff under the hood. It’s one of those rare projects where the creative and technical sides are both going hard.
Poke around when you have a minute. There’s tons of small details and transitions that take several viewings to really digest. It’s a solid reminder of what WebGPU is already capable of.
